It’s here!  Like Christmas morning, all over again… but for really expensive toys that I don’t own but just work on.  Oh, it’s the same thing.

Heavy out of the box b/c it has the power units installed out of the box.  Really slick looking design.  Quite a design difference and departure from the Nortel 8000 series chassis.

The fans are really beefy looking, and are only on the left side of the chassis.  After we turned it on, we noted that the air flowed from right to left, pulled in to the chassis the side opposite of the fans.  At first, we thought that the two handles weren’t going to be strong enough to support all of the weight with the power units installed, and they felt a little flimsy.  We took out the PU’s before we moved the chassis of the palette, just in case.

Really impressed at the fit and finish of the box. A solid device overall.

Kind of confused at this. Must make sense at the factory.

One down, one to go (many more after that).

Running the 220v cables and labeling everything.

Done.  Now time to power it on.

Finished. Burn-in time.  Can’t wait to play!

So, overall the process was easy.  The rails that are provided are very simple to install (after doing the first side and getting a feel for the setup), and make racking switches a pleasure.  The two things that I would advise Juniper to look at would be:

  • The cheap-feeling (I am sure they are durable, they just felt that way) handles on either side.
  • The swing-arm power supply locking mechanism is a little odd.  It does work, but it should be a little simpler.

Great job, Juniper.  Looking forward to getting into the software.
